10 @ Telluride to Carbondale

Refreshed by sleep, we wanted to get a feel of what this little this town could offer in our short stay.
Once a rich mining town in the mid 1800s the buildings now are well cared for and wealth is obvious. In such a picturesque setting, a holidayers / skiers paradise.
Declan working through his shopping list headed to a sunglasses shop resident in the old bank building on a predominant corner in the towns centre. The Main Street points towards a large Rocky Mountain with a substantial waterfall.

The building was ornately built with its ceilings and Victorian decor but what caught our eye was a decorative walk in safe. Here we discovered that Butch Cassidy made his first robbery of $10,300 one morning and just simply rode out of town! It might be a fancy looking safe but it didn't work!

Wandered the streets we admired the miners houses all freshly renovated and well groomed gardens, a testament to the care of the locals. Window shopping is, by nature a necessity, but in reality as they say in Vietnam 'same same but different!' Having said that Colorado has some unique shops so some biscuits and cakes were purchased for supper!

The drive from Telluride lived up to all the research I had done prior to leaving home. The scenic routes over numerous mountain passes reveals stunning green vistas stretching up to the snow line. Randomly scattered houses throughout the valleys and road sides keep the brown timber theme alive.

Roads are good and traffic flows politely.

The days objective was again to hoof it and get to Jesse Lows house just out of Carbondale, near Aspen. We have seen, over the years numerous pictures of the house and surrounds from horse and sleigh on the winter roads to the warmth family joy of being in this house brings! We were not disappointed. As Jess described, up the dirt road at a major intersection, a mile later and across the meadow, there she'll be!

What a home away! We settled in quickly meeting the dogs, horse and neighbours all of which made us feel right at home. Well not all, the horse was offered some carrot stems which proved to be not too standard and we were initially shunned. Apples or nothing it proved to be!

Whilst enjoying to make our own evening meal entertainment was in order. The record player was discovered and a few LP's underneath. On this first evening could I bring myself to just to listen to an extensive list of aged classical and Christmas carols?  But on another shelf was the most extensive varied collection covering the 60s and 70s imaginable! In the depth was Taj Mahal and a treasured Bangledesh, the Who's Tommy, Led Zepplin, Jethro Tull, Grateful Dead, Beatles, Traffic, Creams Inagudadevita! It goes on.
The collection with the greatest big rock bands from the past. What a treasure and a joy to rummage through with a OMG with every discovery then the joy of vinyl being played! The excitement, joy and laughter could be contributed to the home, the music, a few drinks and the cookies we previously bought! Lol.

We could only afford a couple of nights so we filled the day by checking out nearby Aspen. Now there's a rich city! The new art gallery didn't do much and shopping was a different league.

Went to a second gallery which had a tactile approach, walked through John Denvers sanctuary which contrasted from the accurate Japanese rock placement and retreated to the sanctuary of the Lows house. Enough for the day! Sanctuary!
