11 @ Denver

It was late morning before we closed the Lows house door, disappointed it was such a short stay but hoping to return for our last weekend with Declan before we set off home. Long shot!
It was decided to retrace our steps back to Aspen as to go over Independence Pass at 11,095 feet.
It was a considerable climb, roads narrowed to a single lane, very un-American as we forged through forested slopes affording vistas aplenty!
We stopped at the scenic pullout area right on the continental divide! What a view. Rallied on by Dec we had to climb up and see yellow snow, walk in it, (snow that is) play in it and get plenty of selfies.
Looking at weight ratios I was the most handicapped and probably the most vocal as to why?
Boyd on, appropriately, justice was done to subject matter and morale as we climbed further away from the parked cars and minute people disappearing below us? But why son do we need to do this?.......
The view at the continental divide does live up to it earnt title. The terrain drops on both sides, whilst the road draws your eye to the vehicle movement as they climb upwards frowning in size or just disappear.
The trees grow below the demarcation line of snow vs vegetation and offer a contrast to the barrenness.

Anyway one cannot have the head in the clouds for too long, altitude sickness and all that so down, around, back, around and forever down and on to Leadville.
Now in contrast as the name suggest it was a happy place. A race had just been completed. We sussed out a nice junk store, see the pictures, wandered the streets, had a sandwich, Lenore left her hat and we drove on towards Denver. Once we hit the freeway we were actually sucked into the void willing or not.

Long time after more stress than confusion had set in, not knowing where to go and hurtling along at light speed there is always a sign, this one in green said Pretoria St recognised, if you remember from months of googling. This street was near the motorbike renting shop.
Pulling off the verge into unkept road way I felt we had reached America! Over some kind of mesh fence saviour in the form of a Holiday Inn was waiting for our phone call. Lacking choice we were soon booked into a refuge of some kind.
A bed or two was welcomed as to be fresher for what Declan had planned for us the next day.

To Denver's centre four block mall, then to Cherry Gardens shopping centre, escaping along the 5 lane freeway complete with its overpasses we made Fort Collins by night fall.
Now that's a great little city, at least the charm of the old town. Walmart, again and a wander before dinner.

Had some ribs, dinner and some beers and several chats to a lovely waitress. Upon leaving she rushed up to me, as I was guilty of being the last out of the door and gave me a slip of paper with her name and number on it. This I thought must have been that symbiotic connection, that energy that, but coming to my senses I passed it over to my son who initially didn't believe me. Why? Anyway he came around quickly and nonsulantly put it in his pocket. What fathers do often goes unrecognised!
Anyway, whatever!

The day had dawned for the kiss n drop. Firstly Walmart, subway lunch and off to college. Another photo op at the bronze Rams statue (the college icon) then we were set free, or him!
So nothing changes. More leftovers, less costs, distractions and space.
So to fill the gap the bike adventure awaits as I hurl towards that date of 60.
Next chapter of the adventure......he we go!
