1 @ Straight Into it

I wrote the first of the travel blog last night, here in Kingman, Arazonia but internet is quite limited both cellular and wifi!
Guess that's a fact of life in the Wild West.

We left home at 4am on the 4th of August, which now seems ages ago, to catch our flight to Las Angeles via Sydney (which inevitably was delayed).

I thought today was day three. Lenore points out to me that actually day five. How could I forget. Makes everything better, and less hectic. It felt like that when we arrived in LAX with almost no sleep. Delta airlines was good, food was scarce, sleep even less.
But we arrived safely. Customs and such formalities were relatively quick and hoping to get organised in buying phone stuff proved useless as the entire airport is under massive renovations.

Shell shocked with lack of sleep and directions we wandered aimlessly around until a Starbucks was found. We sat brooding for awhile until courage was plucked to jump on an Avis shuttle bus, and of course the depot lines were huge. Lenore stood diligent. I scouted around to shorten the wait and found a small booth serving internet booking and, finally, secured a car.
A new ford something! Black and shiny! What more could you want.

Declan, armed with the iPad navigation device, directed us in what we hoped was the right direction and we braced for LA traffic.
Some of the freeways were large, and grew larger into 7 lanes, where cars and monster SUVs and trucks zoomed criss-crossing lanes whilst I tried to drive straight in the middle lane trying to fight off my sleep deprivation. At times the lanes appeared to grow small as I weaved within the marked lines. We are now at about 30 hours with no sleep.

With a servo stop, some food and mints we powered on to get to the original planned destination. Our first home for the night, yes Victorville!

After a steak for tasting at a retro American diner we hit our beds at the 32.5 hour mark. We didn't need sleeping tablets that night.

Whoosh we're in the USA!
